Boxing This Weekend

Another weekend without any big names. The most significant match this Saturday is the Carlos Molina-Cornelius Bundrage fight for the IBF junior middleweight title. It will be televised on ESPN Deportes. That is a horrible fight matched only by an equally horrid undercard. There are two women fighting and sometimes I look online to see if they are remotely hot (Joselyn Arroyo comes to mind) but I didn't bother when I saw that female match would be contested in the heavyweight division :( Unimas will televise the Jorge Paez Jr-Aaron Herrera match. In London, there is a fight with mild interest among hardcore fans with Lee Selby taking on Joel Brunker in an IBF featherweight title eliminator. Anthony Joshua is on the undercard taking on Denis Bakhtov. This looks to be another baby step for Joshua to pad his record. Another stunner to match last week's return of 46-year old John Michael Johnson is the return of 37-year old Steve Forbes who takes on Augustin Orozco. Forbes has lost five straight going back to 2011. Again, nothing really to analyze here. Only fight worth watching is Selby-Brunker. I can only assume it will be on Boxnation.

Freddie Roach "Manny's sparring partners are better than Algieri"

It does not appear that Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach is too concerned about Chris Algieri's November 22nd challenge of the PacMan. Roach is using Stan Martyniouk and Mike Jones to replicate the fighting style of Algieri. Roach believes that both of them are better fighters than the upset minded Algieri. “They're all very tall, very rangy like our opponent,” Roach told ABS CBN News “They know how to move, they know what I want out of them. All three of them are better than the opponent. So yes, they will help. We'll be strict, go to work, and no more basketball. Roach clearly has no respect for the talents of Algieri. I think he's right but someone needs to tell him this isn't the right way to sell a pay-per-view. They're looking at abysmal domestic buys for this mismatch.

Floyd Mayweather Sr lobbies for a Khan-Mayweather Jr fight

Floyd Mayweather Sr sees a proposed Amir Khan fight as an easy one for his son. He believes Mayweather Jr can expose a lot of flaws in Khan's game and that the Brit will be a sucker for Mayweather's counter right.

Mayweather Sr may be lobbying for Khan because he is the biggest name on a very short list. Other top welterweights like Kell Brook or Keith Thurman simply do not have the name value to generate interest. Fighting anyone on under Bob Arum's Top Rank banner still seems like a highly unlikely option for "Money."

“He ain’t gotta worry about no Amir Khan. Amir Khan is a joke blowing smoke,” Floyd Sr said to Fighthype.com. “He can’t out-think Floyd on Floyd’s worst day. I’m here to tell you that I’m a be there and I’m a make sure every time he throw a punch, he gonna get countered. He gonna get punished, believe me.”

I am in the minority in that I would like to see Khan against Mayweather. "King" Khan has a punch output that Robert Guerrero, Canelo Alvarez and even Marcos Maidana don't have. He would also be the fast opponent Mayweather will have fast since...Zab Judah? I'd go as far as to say he would be the fastest opponent Mayweather Jr will have fast in his career.

If the fight is made it would not be a walk-over for Mayweather.
