Willie Shannon - "Fighting isn't as tough as my nine years in prison"

In 1967, Willie “The Cannon” Shannon was a 16 year old facing three consecutive life sentences in the Florida prison system. Today, the professional boxer, who has gone from heavyweight to cruiserweight to light heavyweight in less than a year, is facing a bright future. Going from a life in hell to where he is now is quite an accomplishment, but Shannon has paid his dues-and more-along the way. Managed by Mike Morton of Portland, OR, and trained by Stan Tischler of Las Vegas, Shannon won his first 19 fights as a heavyweight against opponents who outweighed him by as much as 10 to 30 pounds. As a 185 pound heavyweight, he qualified for the new cruiserweight division (175-190) Last year, he won the Nevada cruiser title with a knockout over Jimmy Ingram at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
