Hector Camacho at lightweight : Stronger, faster and more macho than ever

THE MACHO MAN'S whole game is based on one element: motion. The motion of his fists, the motion of his feet, and now the motion of his emotion. Watch Hector Camacho move in the ring. The steps are small, and while the bounce is nowhere near as fluid or beautiful as Muhammad All's, for Camacho's purposes, it's better. Watch Camacho move right and then left, never ashamed to walk away from a particularly violent exchange or grab his onrushing opponent and start all over again. He fights on his terms, when he wants. Watch Hector create that unique Latin street beat by rat-tat- tatting on his man's head and then, in mid-assault, changing angles and rat- tat-tatting some more. Watch Hector Camacho at all times. He moves so much, you just might lose him.

Marvin Johnson Comeback fighter of the year 1984

Somewhere along the road road, we think it was sometime this past year, light heavyweight Marvin Johnson acquired the nickname "pops." Seems like a strange name for someone who's 30 years old, but in boxing, 30 is closer to old than it is to young. And at the start of 1984, Marvin Johnson, former Olympic bronze medalist, former two time 175 pound titlist, and southpaw supreme, was an old 30.

Bernard Hopkins takes Beibut Shumenov to school

Bernard Hopkins took Beibut Shumenov to his master class and spanked him for a twelve round decision victory in front of 6,300 fans and a Showtime audience. “The Alien” scored an 11th round knockdown and had his way with his foe despite one rather myopic judge scoring the fight in favor of Shumenov. The fight was embarrassingly one sided at times and Hopkins often looked like a cat playing with a mouse.

Peter Quillin sleepwalks through title defense

Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 knockouts) worked up a light sweat in punching up a human heavy bag in 35 year old Lukas Konecny (50-5, 23 knockouts) and gained a unanimous decision. The crowd booed lustily from the 9th round on due to the lack of action. Frankly, I was amazed anyone was still awake.

David Price struggles past Ondrej Pala

Finally got a chance to check out David Price's (17-2,15 knockous) bout against Czech trial horse Ondrej Pala (33-5, 23 knockouts). Price, who is a giant at 6'8”, was floored by the bowling ball-esque Pala by a left hook. Price was completely out of position but looked hurt nonetheless. Price, who had back to back stoppage losses to Tony Thompson, looked like he was about to relive those nightmares once again. He came back, however, and after a cobweb shaking second round he went on to stop his man in the third.
