The third was close and could have went either way. Garcia did very well in the fourth, countering off the back-foot and landed hard shots to Matthysse's head and body. Lucas Matthysse Quiet confidence

Lucas Matthysse never wanted this. The attention. The so-called hype. The interviews. The Angel Garcia negative rants about him. One thing a well-known boxer can count on is press written about him. Ever since Matthysse has been winning, and winning decisively the last coupler of years, it has been an endless stream of interviews requests, photo ops, and repeated questions about the same subject. Matthysse has been a good sport about all the attention he has received. His demeanor oozes confidence and humbleness, not cocky. All he has ever wanted to do in the sport of boxing is just put on a pair of gloves and fight when called upon.

Floyd Mayweather says he was rusty against Guerrero, won't be against Canelo

Floyd Mayweather Jr. enjoyed a triumphant ring return this past May, soundly outboxing Robert Guerrero in their welterweight title fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout marked his first ring appearance in exactly 52 weeks, having previously outpointed Miguel Cotto before serving a brief prison stint and taking off the rest of the 2012 boxing season. The win ran Mayweather’s record to 44-0 (26KO) while solidifying his place as the best fighter in the world. But for all of the talk of the sport’s biggest attraction being obsessed with maintaining his “0”, mere perfection wasn’t even enough on that night. Instead, it’s a performance upon which he plans to build as he prepares for his epic pay-per-view clash with unbeaten Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KO) in the very same ring on Saturday.

Last Saturday in California, the the 38-year-old veteran took a beating from underdog Efrain Esquivias. The fight was stopped in the ninth round, but not before Marquez took a lot of punishment and was dropped hard. He suffered a fractured orbital bone and had to be taken to the hospital afterwards. Nacho, who recently reunited with Marquez, believes the four-fight series with Israel Vazquez took a heavy toll on his boxer's body.

Ricky Hatton My heart says Fury head says Haye

Ricky Hatton believes David Haye will beat Tyson Fury later this month - but he would love to see the latter emerge triumphant and go on to become Manchester's next world champion. Ex-WBA heavyweight champion Haye, 32, faces undefeated 25-year-old Fury on September 28 at Manchester Arena. Fury, who was born in Wythenshawe, has expressed his belief that he is good enough to see off not only Londoner Haye but also Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, the Ukrainian brothers currently holding all of the heavyweight world titles between them.

Paulie Malignaggi will return if money is right

Malignaggi was adamant about getting a rematch with Adrien Broner after losing a split decision to him this past June but those plans were spoiled as Broner informed BoxingScene he was not interested in a second fight. It was then reported that a fight with Malignaggi and fellow Brooklyn native Zab Judah might be in the works as the co-feature for December 7th on the proposed Devon Alexander-Amir Khan bout.

Leo Santa Cruz v. Jhonny Gonzalez?

Newly crowned WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15KOs) already has WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) in his view finder. Leo says he first wants to defend his title in November or December. There are several fighters in the mix. One is Cristian Mijares, another could be Hugo Cazares. Gonzalez won the title last month with a shocking first round TKO of Abner Mares, and the two of them will likely rematch in December.

Floyd Mayweather "I didn't fight Shane Mosley when he was 40!"

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) thinks the public is giving a little too much hype to career accomplishments of WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs). They collide this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather says most of Canelo's big victories came against boxers who were over the hill or undersized, and his first world title was vacant when the Mexican star captured it with a win over Matthew Hatton.

It was very, amazing. It snowed and it improved dark. It was the last nights the year, New Periods Eve. In the amazing and dark a bad little woman, with easy go and easy feet, was walking through the streets. When she staying her own home she certainly had had slip-ons on, but what could they do? They were very big slip-ons, and her mom had used them until then, so big were they. Eddie Hearn "It was a really close fight"

GLASGOW, Scotland -- Ricky Burns withstood a broken jaw and being knocked down by Mexican challenger Raymundo Beltran to keep his WBO lightweight title after a controversial draw on Saturday. Burns never looked like he was winning his fourth defense of the lightly regarded title, and even he and his hometown fans were surprised when the result was announced. One judge gave it to Burns 115-112, another ruled Beltran won by 115-113, and the last scored it 114-114. The more aggressive Beltran appeared to dislocate Burns' jaw in the second round and floored the Scot with a left hook in the eighth. The first draw in the pro career of each fighter left their records at 36-2-1 for Burns, and 28-6-1 for Beltran.

The 30-year-old Coatbridge fighter, making his fourth defence of his belt, was floored in the eighth round of a contest he never really looked like he was winning. But one judge gave Burns the verdict by 115-112, another gave it to Beltran by 115 -113 and there was an audible gasp inside the arena when it was announced the third judge had scored it 114 each, with even the champion, who apparently dislocated his jaw in the second round, looking apologetic.

Ray Beltran vs Ricky Burns

YTH: When traveling to fight in a foreign country you're always going to be the outsider. That alone can throw off a fighter. Coming to Scotland is an automatic handicap. Not training is a handicap. We trained for eight weeks with the toughest sparring Ray's ever had. We've been in Glasgow for two weeks. Unheard of for foreign camps. From the moment we landed we've been treated like royalty. The people of Glasgow have made us feel like we are home and Eddie Hearn and John Wischhusen along with all of their team have been stellar. Ricky Burns' manager allowed us anytime access to his gym and his own family catered to our needs.

Chris Arreola vs. Seth Mitchell prediction

They can’t all be champions. Even in this watered down era of beltholders and interim beltholders, some guys never get a strap. It might be by way of management’s course or timing. It might also be the thickness at the top. In the confines of the Heavyweight division, that means Klitschko with a side of Povetkin. It’s not an easy ceiling to bust through. Chris Arreola had a shot at Vitali Klitschko a few years ago and while he showed guts there was little hope of victory from early on. Seth Mitchell, buzzed bad in each of his last three fights and stopped in the first of two with Jonathan Banks, doesn’t look like any sort of threat to the stop of the class.

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) is not worried about the high rehydration of WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 26KOs). In a recent interview, Canelo's trainer Chepo Reynoso said Mayweather made a big mistake by take the fight at a catch-weight of 152-pounds. Canelo, at times, rehydrates to over 170-pounds on the day of the fight. Mayweather feels the added weight can work against Canelo. "I don't really listen to what other trainers say. I just focus on what my game plan is, and my game plan is to be smart, be first, and win. Every fighter has a weakness. He has 42 wins, but he has a draw. So we'll see what that weakness is. I have 44 wins, no losses, no draws. We'll see how the fight plays. He's a guy who likes to box, he's really young and he's banking on his youth. I have the experience," Mayweather said.
